Posted Breed: Chinese Crested-Hairless (short coat). UPDATE: Her ear ablation surgery was a total success and she is feeling much better. MEET MONA (before/after pictures say it all...) This baby girl was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Dade County about a year and a half ago as one hot mess. We presume her to be about 7 years old (very hard to tell - her teeth are actually in pretty good condition...) She was a puppy mill mama dog, and when her litters diminished, they dumped her. Her skin looked like elephant hide, and her eyes and ears were nasty. She has been fully vetted; bathed, scraped, vaccinated, is being treated for heartworm and is living in a foster home with several other small dogs. She does require eye drops DAILY as she does have dry eye and she does suffer from occasional ear infections. She doesn't LIKE to be groomed, but she is getting better with the process. She is a Hairless Chinese Crested who has NEVER been cared for - until she came into our care. Her skin is 95% better now than it was when she came to us. She has been spayed, microchipped and has had 2 eye surgeries. She is very sweet - loves playing with her ball, and being near her human... and gets excited when she sees kids! -dog friendly & housebroken. Adoption fee $150

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Spaniel / Mixed (medium coat). MEET CHARLIE--- Charlie bonds closely with his owner, showing great affection whenever the owner is present. But is apprehensive, barky and insecure when meeting new people. He reacts by barking and threatening to "bite". He hasn't bitten yet and don't place him in a position where he might! BUT he is still a work in progress and a patient dog savvy owner would be his ideal home. He does BEST in a home with another dog or dogs--- and doesn't do as well (barks more) when he is the only child. He loves to be in your lap and give kisses... He is 100% housebroken and is really a sweet little man with a couple quirks. A strong calm, alpha owner (preferably would be best for this guy.) He loves to play ball and brings it back!! He is about 4 years old - neutered, up to date on all vaccines - micro-chipped - possibly a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix, dog friendly (no cats). He is full grown at about 20 lbs. and really is a nice little guy (once he decides he likes you (generally takes 2-3 days -- and THEN he is your new BEST FRIEND!). He will be re-homed to the immediate area (Broward/Dade/Palm Beach counties) only. Re-homing fee: $200 DOWNLOAD OUR APPLICATION: www.gratefulpaws.org. Click on ADOPT - at the bottom of that page you will find our application. There is rarely anything left over, but if that happens, the monies get applied to the next or previous pet - who may have had to have an x-ray, be groomed or have a dental.

Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). MEET MURPHY--- This handsome fella was picked up as a stray - and an owner has not surfaced. He was taken to see our vet where he was bathed, fully vetted; blood tested, vaccinated, neutered and chipped. He's a Boxer American Bulldog mix (?) about 1 1/2 years old and full grown at about 55-60 lbs. He is living in one of our foster homes and is doing great. Well behaved, housebroken, laid back and very gentle. We presume he was pretty much a "yard dog" and wasn't socialized much because does NOT walk well on a leash and adoption events TOTALLY overwhelm him. We have no clue really, about cats or kids. Great dog - needs a great home. He is about 8 years YOUNG -- weighs 25 lbs. and LOVES his toys and to have his belly rubbed! He is a total sweetheart! He HAD a history of skin and ear issues, but now that he is on a better diet, he's looking pretty good! His coat is naturally a long wavy silky black (was shaved for skin treatment). He is in excellent health - no vision or mobility issues and is not on any meds or special food. He loves to be with people.
