Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Hi I'm Juniper! I came here from a shelter in Texas with my litter of pups. They all found homes and now it's finally my turn! You see, once my duties as a mom were over, I had to go through heartworm treatment. I am happy to say I am now negative! I will require year long heartworm pills to make sure those pesky things don't come back, though. When I first came into rescue I was terrified of the world. I was likely born a stray and didn't know that people were good. My foster family took things slow and I learned that they were kind and they showed me how to trust and love them. I walk around my home now with my head held high, my tail wags and I smile. When I see my mom pick up my leash I get all excited. That's because I not only get to go outside to potty, but I get to go outside and sniff. There is so much to explore out there! I ask that my future family have a fence because that will make me feel safe when I first come to my new home. It will also let me settle in and give me a chance to be carefree running around and being able to play. I'm totally potty trained by the way! I can still get spooked though by loud noises, so little kids that are rambunctious will likely scare me and I'll run to my kennel to hide. My kennel is my safe spot so it would be nice if my new home had one for me. My foster mama leaves the door open so I can choose to hang out there or on a dog bed. I'm totally kennel trained and like to keep it nice and clean. If there's a fluffy bed in there I must confess that I'll chew it up. I'm just fine with blankets though. I love to chew bones and will steal them from my doggie friends til I have them all in my kennel with me. I'll steal their blankets too. I like all treats and I'm super gentle when taking them. I like all size dogs and I would do best with another dog in my home to continue showing me how to be a more confident dog and play with me. I enjoy being pet and scratched when I trust my person but I don't seek it out quite yet. I'll stand still though and let my family walk up to me and pet me. Mom says I'm a super easy foster and I'll make a wonderful addition to any family. Could yours be the one? ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: .underdogrescuemn/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at .underdogrescuemn/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website .underdogrescuemn/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
