True shepherd will bond with handlers. Fearful at first introductions. No bite history. Cats: No Dogs: No Kids: No adult only home Energy Level: High Housebroken: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Prey Drive For Wildlife (no invisible fence if high): High Fence Required: No Best Home For This Pet: Shepard experience with fearful dogs.Low traffic home away from major roads. We do our best to get to know each and every dog at our camp. Their personalities emerge after being with us for a bit and sometimes change. The personality and other information included in the above description is based on what we know currently in the shelter environment. All dogs are up to date on vaccines (Distemper, Rabies, Bordetella), microchipped, spayed/neutered and receive worming, flea & tick medication before they are adopted out. Once your dog is in your home, they will adjust and relax and could become more playful or show more personality traits as they begin to open up. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
