Posted Breed: Pomeranian. Roxie was surrendered to COPR, along with her brother, Mr. Bear (avail for adoption soon), because their owners are going into an assisted living facility. She is housetrained, but she can't hold it for too long. She is crated when no one is home because she will likely have accidents if she’s not taken out fairly regularly. She will get better with a routine I am sure. Roxie is a very sweet, well behaved, low maintenance dog. She likes taking walks and loves getting in the car and going somewhere. She would fit into almost any home and would love to be someone’s lap dog and lay on the couch or in her dog bed alongside you. I think an older couple or family that is home frequently would be a good fit for her. She really likes to be around people and likes to get attention. In foster care in Lakewood, OH. Roxie is eligible for our Senior to Senior program - Approved Adopters, Age 65 and older, will receive $100 off adoption fee towards adoption of any dog age 7 & older. More About Pomeranian Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Charlotte

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Charlotte was found by our Vice President running across the freeway. She almost got hit by two cars speeding past her so our VP had to stop and help her. After every attempt at finding her owner no one came forward to claim her. So it was decided that instead of taking her to the local high kill shelter where she would most likely get put down, we would keep her and make her an honorary pom. Two weeks after finding her, Charlotte had two puppies, Phil and Lil. They have since been adopted and now Charlotte is waiting for the perfect home! She is very sweet, cuddly, and affectionate. She loves to give everyone kisses and enjoys curling up under a blanket by her human. Charlotte enjoys playing with whatever toys she can get her paws on, squeaky toys, balls, rope toys, she doesn’t care as long as someone plays with her. She fetches well and loves to tug. She’s very use to sharing and being climbed all over because of the puppies so she has no food or toy aggression. Commands that Charlotte has been taught are sit, stay, come, drop and lay/place. She does very well running around the house while her foster parents are gone as long as she gets a walk before leaving her. She is housetrained and has been trained to use a gentle leader for walks as she is very strong and will pull on a regular leash. On walks she’ll go right up to strangers to try to get some love. She has been an excellent companion with the poms in her house and did fine with the bigger dogs and cats she met at the animal hospital her foster mom work at. Her pom foster brother has taught her to alert bark, but she mostly only barks when he starts it though. Charlotte would make an excellent companion for anyone looking for a loyal, playful, sweet, goofy, affectionate dog.

Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Urban came into COPR’s care 6 yrs. ago. He was adopted, but unfortunately his adopter passed away so he is back with COPR & looking for a retirement home. Urban is a sweet calm boy, he is great with other dogs and cats. He is pretty quiet, loves hanging out with his people and enjoys some really adorable short play sessions. He hasn't had much experience walking on a leash so he would do best with a fenced yard. Urban appears to be hearing impaired but he is doing a great job learning simple hand signals. He is such a super sweet boy and despite his age he is in good health! He recently had a dental and lost his last few teeth so he eats wet food and he LOVES to eat! In foster care in Toledo, OH. Urban is eligible for our Senior to Senior program - Approved Adopters, Age 65 and older, will receive $100 off adoption fee towards adoption of any dog age 7 & older. Falcon

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). 2 1/2 yrs. old, we don't know his actual b-day so we are making it 7/11/15. Falcoln has recovered quite quickly from his past situation. He has gained weight and he's now up to 6.5 lbs. He bonds very quickly to his person and loves being with you at all times. His housetraining is coming along well, he does go out with the other dogs but still marks in the house at times. Falcoln does well with the other female dogs in his foster home but tends to pick on the males so he should ether be a only dog or with female dogs only. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Falcon's owner was unable to care for him. A good samaritan helped rescue Falcon, and contacted us for help when they realized he needed more medical attention than they could afford. He only weighed 3.3 lbs, when she started to get him on the road to recovery. He needs to be neutered, will need dental work as well as routine blood work. This was more than they expected to handle, so Central Ohio Pomeranian Rescue was glad she had saved him and now we are happy to help him get the medical treatment he deserves. Please help with donations to get Falcon well, so that he can find his furever home and get the happily ever after that he has been dreaming of. If you would like to donate towards his care: https://poundwishes.com/donate/2467038/coco In foster care in Toledo, OH. Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Coco is 10 yrs. old, we don't know his actual b-day so we are making it 3/7/07. Coco is a very sweet relaxed little boy. He loves everyone he meets and gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home. Coco does have a collapse trachea which is very common in the breed. This has improved drastically since he lost weight. He was close to double his ideal weight when we got him!! He is currently down to 11 lbs and gets around great. His cough is a LOT better but he does still cough on occasion. Coco is really good about going out with the other dogs to potty but he will still mark at times if not monitored. Coco is not a big barker, he LOVES going out running around the yard and checking stuff out. He has a favorite bed he loves rolling around in and his sweet face will make you smile all the time! Owner surrender – terminally ill. sweet personality. Coco is eligible for our Senior to Senior program - Approved Adopters, Age 65 and older, will receive $100 off adoption fee towards adoption of any dog age 7 & older. In foster care in Hamilton, OH. Bitsy

      rescue
      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Bitsy came to us in April, 2017 from a local shelter. She was said to be tossed out of a car. Her hair was matted, ears infected along with bad teeth and she was obese. Since coming into rescue she has had her dental. She only has 5 teeth left. Had to have all her hair shaved due to the matts. As of July, 2017 she has lost 3 pounds so far, now down to around 11 pounds and still dieting. She is so happy now. She will run and bark along with the other dogs. Just don’t let a bigger one bump into her. She will let them know to settle down. She still has a large hernia on her belly that the vet was unable to fix, but it does not seem to bother her. She may have the start of Cushings so she will require regular vet visits. She loves to sleep in bed with you and cuddle. She doesn’t really interact with the other dogs to play. She loves people and to get her butt scratched. She does have issues with frequent wetting and does use potty pads but does not always hit them. Always goes outside for bowel movements. She will watch your face the whole time while walking backwards hoping you are going into the kitchen to feed her. So one does have to be careful not to trip over her. She is just a doll, will put many smiles on your face. She needs a special person that will be able to love her the way she is. In foster care in Columbus, OH. Bitsy is eligible for our Senior to Senior program - Approved Adopters, Age 65 and older, will receive $100 off adoption fee towards adoption of any dog age 7 & older. Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Leo is an approximately 6 year old stray from an OH dog shelter. Leo is very affectionate and showers the older children in his foster home with kisses. His foster mom says he is quite silly and enjoys playing with toys, but doesn't like to share. His adopter should be someone who enjoys taking walks as Leo would rather go on a walk than hang out in a fenced in back yard. Leo keeps to himself and wouldn't mind being an only dog, but also gets along with other dogs his size. He does not seem to like large dogs or the cats in his foster home. He does not like to be picked up, but does enjoy the company of his foster family. Despite consulting with our veterinarian and starting a joint supplement and anti-inflammatory possible arthritis in his back, Leo will growl, spin and attack his back side when he is up on his hind legs and comes down or when you put him down. It very well may be a normal behavior for him since the medications did not help. Check out Leo's album on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1249386811796743
