Name: Winston Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of 1.9.19 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 55 lbs. Gets Along With: Other dogs Currently Living at: SC Shelter. Winston needs a forever home! Special adoption considerations: Winston is heartworm positive. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. XXX is scheduled to have treatment as soon as possible so the recovery process can begin. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Luckily for you, I'm out of the crazy puppy stage and a mature three-ish year old gentleman. I still will need to get plenty of exercise between nice long walks (or maybe even runs) and trips to the dog park. I like making new dog friends, and want to get to know all of my future neighbors. I also want a nice cozy bed to come home to after and to hide from the cold! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any particular dog is housebroken. All our dogs are working on crate training.
