At just 10 months old and 36 pounds, this charming hound mix is the perfect blend of playful pup and laid-back cuddle buddy. Oakley is expected to remain a medium size dog once fully grown weighing up to 60 pounds. With a personality as big as her dreams of chasing squirrels, Oakley has typical puppy energy and curiosity. Oakley enjoys the company of other dogs and children. Oakley has not met any cats yet, so it is unknown how she will be with them. Her house and crate training are in process, but this little girl is a superstar in the making. The perfect family for Oakley is one that has the time and patience to continue her training with positive reinforcements. She is currently leash trained so walks with Oakley will be a breeze. Oakley knows she can show you what an amazing family member she can be. Are you ready for some laughs and puppy love? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
