Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Alani, a sweet, medium sized 2-year-old cattle dog mixed breed who is hoping to find her forever family. Found as a stray, this 30-pound beauty has proven herself to be an affectionate and loyal companion with a heart full of love for both children and other dogs. With her sleek black and white coat and gentle nature, Alani is ready to bring joy to any family. She has not been introduced to cats since coming into rescue. Alani is a high energy girl who loves her playtime. She lives life in the fast lane so an active family and/or an equally high energy resident dog would make a great fit for Alani. She would thrive with pet parents who can take her on neighborhood walks and who enjoy outdoor adventures. She is top notch with her leash walking skills so many opportunities to spend going for strolls, hikes or runs will be a satisfying bonding experience. She is also crate trained and has reached master status with her house-training skills. Although she is housetrained, it is important to remember that accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. After a full day of play, Alani will be right by your side or curled up in her own cozy dog bed, ready to enjoy all the comforts of home. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
