Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever (short coat). Brutus is an 1-year-old male Black Lab who must be neutered before adoption. This incredibly beautiful guy was brought in after being found in a city neighborhood. We were shocked no owner came looking for him. Brutus is a picture of health with his gorgeous shiny black coat. Just look at those gorgeous copper colored eyes! Brutus weighs 55 pounds so he is a large dog. He would be good with older children. We would suggest he be an only dog; and not in a home with cats. Brutus is playful and would love a fenced yard where he could play and have fun. This is a VERY nice dog! Please consider giving him a home. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $100. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $50.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
