Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $300.00. NEW RESCUE! Hi there, I’m Britney! I’m an 11-month-old cattle dog mix or as my foster mom says, “the cutest mutt ever… just look at those colors!” I weigh about 45 pounds and have the perfect mix of energy, affection, and sass. Let’s get one thing straight! I’m 100% a lap dog (or at least I think I am). I love to cuddle and will happily follow you from room to room — I just want to be where my people are! I absolutely love other dogs, big or small. I can play all day long and sometimes forget to take a break (even if my playmate is ready for a nap ). When I get super excited, I might grab at my human — not out of meanness, I just get overwhelmed with happiness and have to hold onto something! I’m not very food-motivated, but give me a squeaky toy and I’ll do just about anything for it. I’m also super quiet — I rarely ever bark and I’m amazing in my crate. I love walks too, though I’m still learning not to pull on the leash. I’m potty trained if you have a doggy door, but I’m still figuring out how to tell you when I need to go if you don’t. Because I’m still a young pup with lots of energy and enthusiasm, I’d do best in a home with kids over 12 who understand that I’m still learning manners. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
