Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 450. Please contact BRu for more information about this pet. Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Cooper is a 5 year old male Black Lab who weighs in at 70 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $450. If you are still interested, please read more below. Cooper is, for the most part, a chill 5 year old male black lab. However, he is obsessed with tennis balls and loves a good game of fetch. He doesn't miss any opportunity to bring his foster mom one for throwing and returning. He will continue this game indefinitely so his foster mom has to hide the ball when she sees him getting tired. Inside the house he'll substitute one of his soft squeakies for tossing. When playing fetch, Cooper is laser focused and may unintentionally knock over whoever is in his path – this may be a bit much for some young children. Otherwise, he is good with everyone he meets! After an exhausting game of fetch Cooper will take a long nap. He likes to lay near his foster mom and his favorite place is laying across her feet! When awake Cooper will follow his foster mom everywhere and lays his head on her lap at any chance he gets. He will be a very loyal dog to his lucky new human. Being a lab Cooper is very food motivated. He is a neat eater and picks up any crumbs he finds. He is housetrained and stands by the door when he has to go out. Cooper is crate trained and will enter willingly if he knows there are treats waiting for him. He is extremely smart and because he is so food motivated he is a fast learner. He knows sit, shake, drop it, and off (as in "off of me, off of the sofa, etc). We are working on down/lay down. He is interested in everything so all those smells and sights distract him and interfere with learning leash manners. It's a work in progress. Cooper is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken, and neutered. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! We are based in Wheaton, IL and conduct adoption events in the DuPage County area. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: .arf-il/adopt/ As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit .arf-il/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events. Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!

Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
