Belle – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Fresh Start Meet Belle, a 6-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer whose quiet grace and gentle spirit have endured far more than any dog should. Belle came into rescue after a tough beginning—she was found in a cruelty case along with another adult dog and three puppies, severely underweight and surviving on wild grapes. Now safely in foster care, Belle is beginning to rediscover what it means to feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. Belle is a calm, undemanding dog who asks for very little and gives back with quiet trust. She sleeps soundly through the night and has no separation anxiety—she’s content to rest peacefully when her people are away. She’s fully crate trained and finds comfort there, often choosing her crate as her safe spot. Though she’s still working on housetraining, Belle is a smart and sensitive girl who’s learning at her own pace. She walks nicely on leash and isn’t a strong puller. Right now, she gets about a half-mile walk a day, and her foster family is helping her build strength and stamina as she continues to gain weight and confidence. Belle’s past has made her cautious around people—she tends to hang back and observe before approaching, and she feels most comfortable with calm, gentle handling. With time and patience, she’s showing signs of coming out of her shell, one small victory at a time. She seems to prefer the company of male dogs and would likely do best in a home with a kind, steady canine companion. She’s not a dog who craves constant activity or attention—Belle’s favorite things are simple: a quiet corner, a soft bed, and the reassuring presence of people she’s learning to trust. She rarely barks, doesn’t dig or chew, and has shown no destructive behaviors. Belle rides in the car fairly well and has been easygoing about her daily routine. She’s a bit shy around new sights and sounds, so a calm home environment will help her continue to blossom. She’s not suitable for a home with cats, as her prey drive is too strong. In many ways, Belle is still learning how to be a dog again. Her foster family describes her as “very quiet”—a sweet, timid girl who’s slowly realizing that love and kindness are now hers to keep. Watching her gain confidence has been deeply rewarding, and her next family will have the joy of helping her continue that journey.
