Description
Dog Breed: Rottweiler / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Lottie the Rottie! Lottie arrived to the Shelter as a stray so we don't know a lot about her life before now. A good samaritan found her. She played well with the good sam's dog and did well in her home. Unable to keep her herself, she brought her to the Shelter to find a great home. Lottie has been a staff and volunteer favorite since her arrival. Her beautiful full tail and short stocky body move fast when she zooms around the yards with her canine friends. We are not sure if Lottie is house trained or if she has experience with kids or cats. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Labrottie, a captivating crossbreed of the Labrador Retriever and Rottweiler, originated from the desire to combine the best traits of both parent breeds. These medium-to-large dogs typically inherit a sturdy, athletic build with a short, dense coat that can vary in color from black and brown to yellow or chocolate, often with Rottweiler-like markings. Temperamentally, Labrotties are known for being loyal, intelligent, and often possess a playful yet protective nature, making them excellent family companions. Early socialization and consistent training are crucial to harness their intelligence and ensure they are well-adjusted. While adaptable, their size and energy levels mean they are generally not well-suited for apartment living, thriving instead in homes with ample space and a yard. Health considerations can include those common to their parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, certain cancers, and heart conditions, so responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary care are essential for a long, healthy life.
