Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Hi, I’m Blaze! I’m a 1-year-old, 47-lb black and white labradoodle boy, with a big heart and an even bigger smile. A little about me: I had a bit of an oops moment before I came to AHOTO … I got hit by a car while chasing some cats. Don’t worry though! My right ankle is healing nicely (just a fracture), and my vet says my prognosis is great. I have a sturdy bandage and just need some rest and TLC to get back to full zoomie power. I’m up to date on all my vaccines, neutered, and ready for cuddles. I’m a loveable goofball — playful, curious, and cuddly all in one! I love being in your lap and getting a good ear scratch just as much as I love a fun game of tug. I do great with dogs and cats (I might bark at cats at first — they’re so interesting! — but once they come close, I’m totally chill). I’d fit perfectly with a family that has older kids (8+ would be ideal). Another great thing about me... my foster mom says I'm house trained! No accidents so far. I’m still working on my leash manners and can get nervous around cars or bark a little when I see other dogs on walks, but once I get a good sniff, I settle right in. If you’re looking for a sweet, curious, and slightly silly companion with a brave heart and a healing paw, I’d love to meet you.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
