Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Adoptable in: MA, RI, NH, CT, and VT Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown, likely yes Good with kids: Yes Crate trained: Yes House Trained: Yes With a name like Princess, you might expect a high-maintenance pooch—but this sweet lady is anything but. Her gentle, loving nature and easygoing attitude make her wonderfully adaptable and a joy to have in any home. Princess is the kind of companion who fits right in and brings calm wherever she goes. She’s a mellow and charming girl who gets along beautifully with other dogs and is incredibly gentle with her foster’s one-year-old child. While she hasn’t met a cat yet, she shows little interest in backyard critters, so she’d likely do just fine with a feline friend. Princess has excellent house manners—she takes care of all her royal business outdoors and is happy to relax in her crate for a few hours during the day and overnight. Her leash skills are coming along nicely, though a bit of extra guidance wouldn’t hurt. Princess is ready to leave foster life behind and find her forever family. Could your home be the perfect palace for this lovely lady?

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
