Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (short coat). A5707686 Athena is a 1-year, 2-month-old spayed female German Shepherd, 61lbs, with a classic black and tan coat. She’s an intelligent, energetic young dog who’s ready to find a stable, loving home after several shelter stays. Athena is very smart, knows all her basic commands, and loves having a job or direction. She’s playful, eager to bond, and thrives with structure and activity. She has big energy and a strong play drive, doing especially well in play groups with other dogs. Athena pulls a little on leash and will benefit from continued leash training, but she’s eager to please and quick to learn. Friendly, social, and full of potential, she’ll make a wonderful companion for an active adopter ready to match her enthusiasm and guide her growth. -1 year, 2 months old, spayed female, 61 lbs -German Shepherd, black and tan coat -Very smart; knows all basic commands -High energy and strong play drive -Eager for direction and to bond -Does very well in play groups -Pulls slightly on leash; needs light leash work -Friendly, playful, and easy to handle -Loyal, active Shepherd ready for a dedicated home ATHENA’S VIDEO: youtube/shorts/MvS7YtEK5 For more information, contact volunteer Lor at lorunitedhopeforanimals Photo Credit Rafael Look up this or other animals at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center animalcare.lacounty.gov/view-our-animals/ Use their unique ID NUMBER. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
