Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). A5728222 Canela urgently needs to find her new family. She is a 3 year old, 45lb, spayed, female Pitbull mix with a gorgeous red coat, black eyeliner, and an irresistibly cute flopped-over ear that gives her character. Surrendered by her owner on September 22, 2025, Canela is graceful, gentle, and heartbreakingly sweet — but time in the shelter has made her increasingly withdrawn. She’s a quiet, sensitive soul who just needs a calm, loving home to remind her she’s safe. At intake, Canela was friendly and easy to examine, with a relaxed, upright posture. She’s cautious at first but warms up when spoken to softly. She walks nicely on leash, appears housebroken, and knows “sit” and “come.” In the yard, she’s tolerant and polite around other dogs, though she mostly keeps to herself. With her calm, low-to-medium energy, Canela would thrive with an adult-only or quiet family who can give her gentle reassurance and patience. She’s truly a beautiful girl on borrowed time — ready to blossom with love and stability. -3 years old, spayed female, 45 lbs -Pitbull mix, red coat with black eyeliner markings -Owner surrender on 9/22/2025 -Graceful, calm, and gentle -Initially timid but warms up with soft reassurance -Walks well on leash and shows signs of housebreaking -Knows “sit” and “come” -Polite and tolerant with other dogs; low-to-medium energy -Would do best with a quiet or adult-only home -Sensitive, soulful companion who just needs love and patience CANELA’S VIDEO: youtube/shorts/vZSeK48O7 For more information, contact volunteer Lor at lorunitedhopeforanimals Photo Credit Rafael Look up this or other animals at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center animalcare.lacounty.gov/view-our-animals/ Use their unique ID NUMBER. Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
