Description

Dog Breed: Beagle (short coat). COURTESY LISTING This dog is a courtesy listing (not in the AARF program) but we will be reviewing applications and helping the owner find the right home for FINN. Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Meet Finn, the lovable, energetic 2.5 yr old, 44 lb beagle who is equal parts playful adventurer and dedicated snuggle buddy. Finn is the perfect combination of spirited fun and cozy companionship. He adores a good game of tug-o-war, patrols the yard with enthusiasm, and never turns down a round of fetch—especially if a squeaky toy is involved. Yet when the excitement winds down, he transforms into the sweetest couch potato, happiest when curled up as close to his humans as possible. If you've ever dreamed of a sturdy little lap dog who tries to melt into you, Finn is your guy. Highly food-motivated and eager to please, Finn has all the makings of a wonderfully trainable companion. He already knows a few basic commands and is fully housetrained and crate trained. He signals clearly when he needs to go out and has good indoor manners—aside from his hilarious habit of counter surfing, which just means his new family will need to keep tempting snacks and items out of reach. Finn gets along beautifully with other dogs and is great with children. He’s also good with cats but can get a little excited thanks to his natural beagle prey drive. As a true scent hound, he loves sniffing, exploring, and even digging for moles, so a securely fenced yard where he can follow his nose would make him incredibly happy. This sweet boy has had a lot of change in the past year, so he’s looking for a patient, loving family who will give him the time and consistency he deserves. A family with Beagle experience would be best. A home with another friendly dog and plenty of human companionship would be perfect for helping Finn feel secure and loved. If you’re searching for a joyful, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing during playtime and warm your heart during quiet moments, Finn is ready to be your new best friend. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. A.K.A.: Gascogne-Beagle, Southern Hound, Dwarf Beagle, Pocket Beagle, Glove Beagle, English Beagle, Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagle, Miniature Beagle, Toy Beagle, French Beagle, Harrier, Basset, Dachshund, Little Hound, Rabbit Hound, Hare Hound, Beag, Begs
Overview:

The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
