Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie. Fourteen-year-old Buster came to us in very rough condition. His nails so long they curled back into his paws, fur matted tightly to his skin, and a mouth full of teeth that now all need to be removed. He even had pus coming from both ears from a severe double ear infection. And yet… this boy greeted us with a wagging tail. With trust. With sweetness. With that gentle, old-soul kind of love that feels almost sacred. We want to be clear about something important: Buster’s former owner did the right thing by bringing him to us. Life can get complicated. Caregiving can become overwhelming. Sometimes people truly don’t have the ability, resources, or knowledge to keep up. We are choosing empathy here. What matters most is that Buster is safe, and he’s finally getting everything he’s needed for a long time. Our team spent hours gently shaving away mats and working on his nails. They’re still very long, but we’re slowly trimming them back and waiting for the quick to recede so we don’t hurt him. Through it all, Buster has been a perfect gentleman, patient, kind, happy to lean into you for comfort. And here’s the good news that made all of us breathe a little easier: ✨ His bloodwork looks great. His organs are healthy. At 14 years old, that is truly a blessing. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
