Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Meet Ellie! A loving lap dog looking for a home after her owner (my mom) passed last December. She’s incredibly affectionate, loves cuddling under the covers, and bonds deeply with her person. She prefers women but can warm up to men. She gets along with other dogs and adapts well to a pack, though she may try to be the boss and can be food-protective if another dog approaches her bowl. She’s also good with cats. She enjoys walks (can be barky when excited), loves kisses, hugs, and her sweaters. She’s okay around kids but doesn’t like being handled by them—she really prefers calm, gentle adults. She was never fully potty trained, so she still has accidents. She sometimes uses a pad, but also needs diapers and close supervision. With patience and a routine, she can improve. She’s on a chicken-free urinary care diet and does well with it. She’s ready for a home that wants a devoted, cuddly companion. **** Breed: Chihuahua **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2191322&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
