Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Meet Plum! Plum is the biggest tiny cuddle bug. She can take some time to warm up to new people and dogs, but when she trusts you, she is the sweetest, loviest, lickiest little friend. She bonds closely to her humans and is most content when they’re nearby. And then there are her ears. At just over a year old, tiny Plum’s youthful exuberance, big ears, and nearly-unbearable cuteness has won the hearts of her foster parents, their families, and the neighbors she has met on walks. Plum does well on a leash. She enjoys walks and can motor along for 2+ miles without getting worn out. She is curious and excited about smells, birds, and falling leaves. She is playful and silly, and loves chasing and wrestling with her giant foster brother Larry, and using him as her personal jungle gym. She is just learning about toys and still sometimes prefers chewing on cardboard to toys or chews. Plummy’s superpower is snuggling. She loves to burrow into you and cuddle up into a tiny, plum-sized ball, or stretch out on her back like a dead bug. She’s happy to go to bed early, sleep late, take naps, and hang out on the couch, as long as she’s cuddled up to her people. She also happily naps next to her foster mom while she’s working. Plum is new to living in a home but is a smart little thing and has been doing well with potty training. She goes outside on a leash and will do her business right away when she gets to her spot. She is working on increasing the time between potty breaks (currently 3-4 hours) and does fine through the night without a break. She is working on crate training and will run to her crate at mealtime but doesn’t enjoy the crate once she’s finished eating. She is learning “sit” and “with me” and responds well to positive reinforcement in the form of praise, pets, or treats. Plum wants all the love all the time. She would do well as the only pet. She may be able to live with another animal if that animal isn’t cuddly with humans, or if there are enough people in the household to give simultaneous attention to all the animals who need it. In her foster home, Plum gets upset or anxious if her people give too much attention to other people or pets. She sometimes tries to chase away the cat if it is getting pets or cuddles that Plum thinks should be focused on her. She gets along well with the resident dog, who is easy going, not much of a cuddler, and tolerant of her antics. Plum doesn’t mind if another animal is getting pets, as long as she’s getting attention at the same time. In her foster home, Plum is with people most of the time. She would love a forever home where someone is usually home or can take her with them when they go out. She will need to work on confidently spending time alone. As far as we know, Plum has not lived with children. She is excited to meet dog-savvy kids on her walks, but with her need to be the star of the show, she may not do well in a household with babies or very small children. Plum barks when she’s anxious or excited. On walks, she is making progress focusing on her people and treats instead of barking at strangers or dogs. When she’s inside, she also barks at outside noises and when people are at the door, so she would not be suitable for apartment living. Plum is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.
