Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. Meet Wella (ID: 023D) Location: Abilene, TX Date of Birth: 07/14/2022 Wella is a sweet, gentle Great Dane with a loving personality and excellent house manners. She is an easy dog to live with and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal dog who enjoys being close to her people. Wella is fully house trained and has been very respectful of her foster home. She does not chew, dig, or counter-surf, and she settles nicely indoors. She has a calm, medium-to-low energy level and is generally content with a backyard and a daily walk. After that, she is happy to relax nearby and spend time with her people. Wella is what many people describe as a “Velcro dog.” She forms strong bonds with her humans and prefers to stay close by, often following from room to room. She enjoys affection and loves to cuddle, making her a wonderful companion for someone who wants a dog that truly enjoys constant companionship. When first approached, Wella may appear a little hesitant about an unfamiliar hand reaching toward her. Once she realizes she is safe and being offered affection, she relaxes quickly and leans into pets and attention. Wella currently lives with multiple dogs in her foster home, including both large and small breeds, and she has done well with all of them. She is easygoing and has not shown aggression toward other dogs. While she has not been formally tested with cats, her calm and curious temperament suggests she may do well with proper introductions. She has also briefly met an infant and a toddler and was friendly and gentle, though as with any large dog, supervision is recommended around small children due to her size. Wella walks nicely on a leash and rides comfortably in the car, making her an easy companion to bring along on outings. Wella’s ideal home is one where she can spend plenty of time with her people and enjoy a relaxed household environment. She would do best with someone who appreciates a close companion and does not mind a dog that likes to stay right by their side. If you are looking for a calm, affectionate dog who will happily be your shadow and constant companion, Wella may be the perfect match for you. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
