Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Golden Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Welcome to the Rescue, Apollo! Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Apollo, a 10½-year-old Lab/Golden mix (as we were told—we have not confirmed with a DNA test) who is as sweet as pie and just as handsome as can be. It’s very clear that Apollo was deeply loved and beautifully cared for by his owner. This was not an easy decision. Due to serious medical concerns, his owner is no longer able to care for him and will be transitioning into assisted living, with more surgeries and recovery ahead. During an incredibly difficult time, Apollo showed the kind of loyalty we all hope for—he stayed faithfully by his owner’s side for three days while they were unable to move or call for help. X-rays have shown that Apollo does have some arthritis in his spine and knees. He is on a long-term pain and anti-inflammatory medication as well as some joint supplements to keep him comfortable. He seems to get around well and gets so excited for his treats! He had comprehensive bloodwork done and the doctors did not have concerns with it. We just cleaned his teeth the first week of March so he has some pearly whites to go to his new home with! We’re told Apollo does well with children (though we have not yet tested this ourselves). He would likely do best in a home without cats, as he enjoys chasing them. Dog testing is still to come, but from what we’ve seen so far, he should be able to live with another respectful dog. We would love to find a foster or a foster-to-adopt home for this gentle boy. In the meantime, please help us shower Apollo with the warm welcome he deserves as he begins this new chapter. Our goal is simple: to make the rest of his life as comfortable, safe, and full of love as possible. If you can help by fostering—or would like to learn more—please reach out. An approved adoption application is required. The $200 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; senior bloodwork testing, microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; heartworm and tick disease testing; fecal w/ giardia testing, monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention . Our adoption application may be found by going to: .headinhomerescue; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Golden Labrador, a delightful hybrid often referred to as a Goldador, is a popular cross between the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. Originating from designer breeding programs, these intelligent dogs inherit the best traits from both beloved parent breeds. Physically, they are medium to large-sized with a muscular build, typically sporting a dense, water-repellent coat in shades of gold, yellow, or cream. Their temperament is exceptionally friendly, loyal, and eager to please, making them outstanding family pets that get along well with children and other animals. While adaptable, their energy levels necessitate regular exercise, making a house with a yard preferable over strict apartment living. Though generally healthy, potential health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, common in both parent breeds, and certain eye conditions. Overall, the Golden Labrador offers a wonderful blend of intelligence, affection, and trainability, making them a fantastic companion for active families.
