Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Introducing Archie ! He is just a whole lot of contradictions for us. This boy has been with us since 1/21, but we are just getting to know him here in March ! Poor Archie came to the Shelter in the middle of a Kennel Cough outbreak, and before he could even get of stray hold, the bug got him, He must have had a bad case, as he was in treatment for upwards of a month ! Here on 3/10, he was FINALLY released from quarantine and you better believe he was ready to make up for lost time ! He ran zoomies, rolled over for belly rubs and just basically let out all the charm he had bottled up while he didn't feel good. This boy has definitely had a rough stay at Hotel Bradshaw, and he would LOVE to have someone break him out and give him the good life that he deserves ! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
