Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). MEET ROOKIE Rookie is an almost 2 year old Pit Bull mix looking for a calm and understanding home where he can truly thrive. He came to us as an owner surrender due to reactivity around younger children, so we are recommending a home without children.Rookie has previously lived successfully with another dog and has done well with canine companions. He is housebroken, crate trained, and knows his basic commands. Once he feels comfortable, Rookie is a loyal and affectionate companion who enjoys being close to his people.Rookie does not seem to enjoy crowds or overstimulating environments, so a quieter home with a predictable routine would be best for him. He would benefit from a patient adopter who can help him continue building confidence and feeling secure.If you are looking for a devoted companion and can provide Rookie with the calm environment he needs, he may be a great fit for your home. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
