Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Harriet, the 5 month old black and white terrier mix! This fluffy pup was found as a stray, so we donât know much about her history prior to her arrival at the shelter, however the good samaritan who found her said she did well with her two dogs and a cat. Potential adopters with resident pets should keep in mind that she may be a good fit but that a slow and thoughtful introduction is necessary so that they can learn to live together nicely. Since coming here, Harriet has been very affectionate and sweet with our staff. She is a playful girl who has been learning to play fetch with a ball! If you are looking for a young goofy puppy to fill your home with cuddles and energy, consider meeting Harriet! Harriet is available for preadoptionâcome meet her, fall in love, and take her home after her spay surgery! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
