Description
Dipper has opinions. She is a calm, kind and affectionate little girl who genuinely loves being with her people, but she does not feel the need to be in the middle of every bit of activity. Dipper is a thinker. She is perfectly happy to sploot nearby, watch what is going on and decide whether the current adventure is worthy of her participation. When she does engage, she engages beautifully. And if there is a good belly rub available, all thoughtful decision-making immediately ends. She will quite literally stop, drop and roll. She is affectionate and people-oriented without being demanding, and she is also showing a lovely bit of independence. She enjoys playing with other dogs but does not appear to need another dog to keep her entertained or comfortable. Dipper has been intentionally raised with extensive socialization and enrichment. She has experienced children and adults, other dogs, water, outdoor adventures, different surfaces, household and farm activity, grooming, crates, new environments and plenty of opportunities to explore and build confidence. She is crate trained, travels quietly, is litter box trained and is working on house training. This litter is from our Ember x Bobby McGee cross, combining established Miniature American Shepherd lines selected with temperament, structure, health and versatility in mind. Dipper is sired by an AKC Champion, and her dam is a titled companion-event dog who also works as a medication alert dog. Both parents are fully health tested. Temperament is a major focus of our breeding program. Dipper would be a wonderful match for someone looking for a thoughtful, affectionate companion who enjoys being part of her person's life without needing to be the center of it.

Physically, they are compact and athletic, typically weighing between 20-40 pounds and standing 13-18 inches tall, with a striking double coat that comes in various colors, often featuring captivating merle patterns and sometimes blue or amber eyes. Their temperament is generally described as loyal, intelligent, and energetic, making them highly trainable and eager to please. While their smaller size might suggest suitability for apartment living, their significant exercise needs mean they thrive best in homes that can provide ample physical and mental stimulation. They are excellent family dogs when properly socialized, forming strong bonds and often being good with children. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but potential concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, eye anomalies (like PRA and cataracts), and drug sensitivities due to the MDR1 gene.
