Posted Breed: Shepherd / German Shepherd Dog. Glen Fry is a German Shephard mix that came to our shelter surrendered with his mother and his sister Winslow Arizona when he was just a puppy. His starfish volunteer likes to carry him like a baby because… well he lets her and he likes to show the other dogs how much he gets cuddled. Once he is outside he thrives! He loves to walk on the leash and he warms up pretty quickly (30 minutes and you might be his new best friend). Glen likes other dogs and has been tested with small dogs and didn’t seem to notice they were playing while he was exploring the play area. He was in the same kennel as his sister for the first two years of his life and if she didn’t decide to tattoo his ear he would still be with her. He misses that companionship in a friend or side kick. He’s such a sweet boy and is looking for his forever home that will help bring out his confidence with a little love and affection. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
