Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? .muttloverescue/foster.html ***************** Gemma is a very special dog who, despite her striking good looks and calm demeanor, has been waiting a long time for her forever home. Gemma requires a child-free home with an experienced dog person (she is especially at ease with women), needs to be a solo pet (prefers to be your one and only) and she should have a fenced yard where she can comfortably and securely receive exercise. She is an anxious girl, but will be a very loyal companion for the right person who can provide her the commitment she deserves. She is about 4 years old and her history is a mystery as she was originally a stray. Gemma wants to trust and love and could flourish with the proper attention and guidance. **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at .muttloverescue/application.html OR write to adoptmuttloverescue. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
