Description
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu. Age: 5 years Sex: Neutered male Estimated Breed: Shih tzu X Weight: 25 lbs Good with dogs?: Yes, but would likely do best as the only animal Good with cats?: No Good with children?: Older children only Special/Medical Needs: No Energy Level: Medium Adoption Fee: $650 Foster Home Location: Calgary Bud is a true Albertan; he does not mind snow or cold weather. His favourite place is at the window watching all the neighbourhood action. He loves to run and go for walks, but he needs some redirection as he gets too excited. He likes to ride in the car and usually sits on the console. He likes to eat and drink but he never begs for food. He is not a cuddly dog but will sit and lie down beside you. He likes to be pet and being brushed. Bud is a great companion. He gets very attached to one person, and he is very protective. He sleeps well on his bed through the night but does not like crate, he cries the whole time. He is house and potty trained. He can be a bit reactive in stressful in high energy situations, so he needs a calm environment to thrive in. He is friendly to my one dog, but aggressive to the other one so he would probably do best as the only animal in his household. He does not like cats and rarely barks. He has some nippy tendencies so no small children. We've been doing constant training and redirection and he is getting better. I believe Bud will be an awesome companion if you just give him time, patience and lots of love.

Breed overview
Shih Tzu
A.K.A.: Lion Dog, Chrysanthemum Dog, Foo Dog, Xi Shi dog, Tibetan Temple Dog, Chinese Imperial Dog, Lhasa Lion Dog, Shitzu, Schipperke, Tzu, Shih Tzu Kou, Kou
Overview:
The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella. Despite these considerations, a Shih Tzu typically brings immense joy and companionship to their devoted owners.
