Description
Dog Breed: Carolina Dog (short coat). HOLD / PENDING Gypsy is a very intelligent, loyal girl who loves to play tag with other dogs. She knows all her basic commands and is extremely affectionate with people she trusts. She can get anxiety when outdoors on walks if there is traffic or loud noises. We believe this is because she was caught in a trap and her first real interactions with people was a traumatic experience. She acts as the "welcome committee" for new dogs coming into our rescue and seems nurturing of the younger ones - showing them the ropes. She is very intuitive and has all of the behavior traits one would expect with a Carolina Dog. We would anticipate her going to a new home and environment to be a daunting experience for her at first so a person who is breed familiar and willing to be patient and build trust on her terms is needed. Gypsy also loves other canine companionship and being part of a pack so a home with at least one other dog would be required for adoption. Applications for adoption can be submitted at lovar

Breed overview
Carolina Dog
A.K.A.: American Dingo, Dixie Dingo, Southern Dingo, Native Dog, Swamp Dog, Yellow Dog, CD
Overview:
The Carolina Dog, often called the “American Dingo,” is a fascinating and ancient breed believed to have descended from primitive canids that crossed the Bering land bridge with early humans. Originating in the southeastern United States, particularly the swamps and forests of the Carolinas and Georgia, they are a medium-sized dog with a distinctive wild appearance. Physically, they possess a lean, athletic build, short reddish-brown to black coat, and a characteristic "fish-hook" tail. Temperamentally, Carolina Dogs are known for their intelligence, independence, and natural instincts; they can be reserved with strangers but form strong bonds with their families. While adaptable, their energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them better suited for active families with access to a yard rather than small apartments. Generally a healthy breed, they are robust, though responsible breeders screen for common canine issues. Their unique history and engaging personalities make them a rewarding companion for the right owner.
