Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Elaine is an angel! She is mellow, sweet, and friendly, potty-trained, and loves to be petted. During a recent outing, she was comfortable riding in the car and got along with all the other dogs she met, even the small ones. She is a petite grandma ready to spend her golden years in comfort. She came to us as a stray in rough shape â dirty enough to need two baths â but it was immediately clear she was a gentle sweetheart. Shelter life took a toll, and Elaine began to lose weight from stress. Thankfully, a loving foster stepped in and gave her the peace and care she needed to bounce back. She spends most of her time snoozing or peacefully spaced outâand we adore her for it. If you're looking for a low-maintenance, soulful companion to nap beside you, Elaine is your girl. All she wants is a cozy place to rest and a family to love her. Elaine is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on her shots. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
