Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (long coat). As you can see in Melanie's "before" photos, when she was rescued 2 months ago she was in very rough shape. She went into foster where she has been receiving treatment for various issues. She is ten years old but doesn't act it - she's a very happy little gal. Melanie is extremely sweet and so grateful. She seems to be fully house trained. She picked up on the foster's doggy door on day 1. She did fine in a crate at the shelter but her fosters have been spoiling her and letting her sleep in their bed with their pups and she absolutely loves bed time . Melanie is a quiet girl who's not a huge barker. She 's very friendly and has not met a stranger. She is very drawn to human food so her fosters are working on her manners. Melanie is just huge cuddle bug in a tiny body and she spends a lot of time in a lap or on "dad's" chair while he works. Melanie is very dog friendly - she has not been tested with cats but her fosters feel that they would not be an issue for this sweet gal. Melanie will be coming to NJ when she is fit to travel. As you can see in her recent photos, she is a beautiful little dog who is becoming more beautiful every day! Be sure to ask for her by name - MELANIE TX!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
