Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat). Thank you for stopping by to see me! Please fill out an application to set up a private meeting. Meet Philly, the 5-pound gentleman with a big personality packed into a tiny Yorkie frame! At 11 years old, he’s a senior who knows what he likes—soft dog beds, snuggly laps, and shadowing his human around the house just to be sure he doesn’t miss a single cuddle opportunity. He’s got a funny little routine of hopping around on his hind legs when you walk in the door, like he’s been rehearsing a welcome-home dance just for you. Philly is friendly with people and dogs, though he can sometimes get a little territorial with other pups. He’s working on his confidence—fast-moving things can make him nervous, but he’s getting braver every day. He’s mostly potty trained but still wears a belly band indoors to help with marking. Out on walks, though, he’s a perfect little gentleman on the leash. If you’re looking for a mellow, affectionate companion who just wants to curl up in your lap, keep you company, and occasionally supervise the neighborhood from the comfort of his bed, Philly is your guy. He’s ready to bring joy, warmth, and a few happy snores to his forever home. Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiriesunderdogrescuemn> ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: .underdogrescuemn/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at .underdogrescuemn/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website .underdogrescuemn/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
