Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Doberman Pinscher / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Kenneth, the 6 month old mixed breed XL puppy. We are guessing he is a Doberman Malinois mix but truly have no idea as he originally arrived as a stray. Kenneth came in with an injury to his pelvis. Our medical team and a dedicated foster family have been working together to provide Kenneth with activity restriction to help him heal the past three weeks. Although Kenneth still needs a few weeks of limited activity to heal completely, he is very much ready to meet an adoptive family to continue his recovery with. Our clinic team is on standby to chat with any potential adopters about Kennethâs medical needs. His foster family describes Kenneth as funny, outgoing, cuddly, loving, intelligent and super goofy. He was initially unsure of the indoors of the house such as walking through doorways and on slippery surfaces but having area carpets to walk on and some patience with acclimation allows for Kenneth to gain confidence and walk around like he owns the place in no time. The outdoors is Kennethâs happy place â heâd make a great camping buddy. This smart cookie already knows âsitâ, âdownâ, âoutâ, âbedâ and âtouchâ. He is very food motivated and catches onto new things quickly. Kennethâs love language is affection â both giving it (with little love nibbles when he is really happy) and receiving it. He is house trained provided he has appropriate outs to go pee and poop on walks or during time out in the yard. During his exercise restriction, Kenneth has become an enrichment extraordinaire â loving frozen kongs, toys and enrichment boxes filled with toys/treats (although sometimes the big lug gets his head stuck in them). Kenneth has been in an adoptive home with a couple and their dog-savvy female pittie. He thrives when he is with his people more often than not. Although Kenneth has enjoyed coexisting with the resident dog, he is currently not allowed to romp around and play with other dogs to abide by his activity restriction and help him heal. If you are interested in a goofy, smart, XL puppy to be your sidekick â consider coming to meet Kenneth today! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
