DIEGO* - CHIHUAHUA / MIXED (MEDIUM COAT) DOG FOR ADOPTION

Description

Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Diego, the compact (larger than normal) chihuahua mix. Diego has taken some time to warm up to staff but, thanks to the presence of other dogs, has made some progress expanding his circle of friends. Staff have observed that he has developed a few crushes on other small breed dogs since his arrival and would thrive with in a home with a canine play buddy. With new people, Diego is initially leery but once he warms up to people, gets in laps and loves rolling around. Diego would thrive in a dog savvy adoptive home with a canine friend. A lower traffic home (one without lots of visitors and in a generally quieter environment) would be more conducive to Diego’s confidence building. Due to his stranger danger, Diego is required to meet all individuals in the household prior to adoption. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
