Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). COURTESY LISTING This dog is a courtesy listing (not in the AARF program) but we will be reviewing applications and helping the owner find the right home for KIAH. Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Meet Kiah, a stunning 5½-year-old, 53 pound, purebred Blue Heeler with a big brain, a big heart, and energy to match! This gorgeous girl is the definition of loyal — once she bonds with her person, she gives her whole heart and focuses entirely on you. Kiah is intensely smart and thrives when she has direction, activity, and companionship. Whether she’s joining you for a car ride, going on a walk, or simply cuddling close, she’s happiest when she’s with her person. True to her breed, Kiah is energetic, alert, and deeply devoted. She knows her basic commands — come, sit, down, heel, place, and leave it — and follows them beautifully. She’s completely house-trained and crate-trained, resting quietly unless things around her get a little too rowdy. Kiah loves routine and predictability, and while she’s cautious around strange dogs, she’s well-mannered in public and calm when out and about. She also lives peacefully with a cat and behaves well around livestock when supervised. Kiah’s personality shines brightest when she’s the only dog in the home — she loves being the center of attention and will reward you with endless loyalty, affection, and a few funny quirks. She falls asleep flat on her back with her legs in the air and greets her favorite people with the sweetest neck kisses. She’s gentle and watchful with children who are calm and respectful and takes her role as a quiet guardian seriously. Kiah would do best in a home with someone familiar with the Australian Cattle Dog breed — a person who appreciates intelligence, structure, and heart. A home where she's the one and only pup with a family who is home more often than not is what she craves. With the right person, she’ll be the most loyal, loving, and devoted companion you could ask for. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
