Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Heebie, the yorkie mix. This adolescent guy arrived at the Shelter with his friend Jeebie after they did took a scenic adventure in Davenport around Highway 1. Lucky for these guys, a good Samaritan saw them walking aroundin an area where lots of cars drive and helped to bring them into the safety of the Shelter. Staff report that Heebie is eager to interact with people, walks on leash and jumps up for attention. To help keep Heebie safe in his next home, we are recommending Heebieâs next adopters ensure that he is on a securely fitting harness, collar and leash when out in public. Heebie may enjoy a home with his bud Jeebie but is not required to be adopted with him. If you are looking for a dog who enjoys adventuring the coastâ come meet Heebie! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
