Name / Breed / Age: Atticus, Shepard, Puppy Personality Traits: Faithful, People pleaser, Loveable, The clever one, The Guardian Likes / Dislikes: Dislikes the neighbors electric mower and being bossed around by his foster brother Likes learning new things especially when treats are involved Health and behavior history: Up to date on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and will be neutered between 4 to 7 months. Clean bill of health from the PIPs Vet! Meet Atticus! This cutie pie was rescued from a rural shelter and came to PIP’s at just 10 weeks old. When he arrived, he was malnourished with patchy fur from a flea infestation—and, we’ll admit, a little on the stinky side! But after some love, good nutrition, and a few baths, he’s blossoming into a stunning young dog. Atticus is as bright as he is adorable. He’s excelling at crate training, potty training, and leash skills, and learns new things quickly. He also has a natural ability focus —a rare trait for such a young pup—and loves being near his people. Friendly, affectionate, and eager to please, Atticus charms everyone he meets. He deserves a family who can nurture his intelligence and continue his training. Atticus would do best with an adopter who understands his breed and has experience guiding an energetic, clever young dog. Atticus is a diamond in the rough!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
