Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: Minden, Louisiana DOB: 06/15/2020 Wilson is a very sweet, sensitive boy who is still learning that the world can be a safe place. He can be extremely skittish at first and tends to be especially fearful of unfamiliar men, though he warms up to women much more quickly. Despite his fears, Wilson has made incredible progress in foster care and continues to gain confidence every day. At home, Wilson is a gentle, goofy companion who loves affection and attention from the people he trusts. One of his favorite things to do is bury his head in your lap for love and cuddles. He also has an adorable habit of collecting and hoarding toys around the house. While he has playful moments, he is generally a calm, chill dog who is happy relaxing at home with his family. Wilson does well with other dogs and has lived peacefully with several large dogs. He is also wonderful with cats. However, bunnies are not recommended. He has lived with children ages 4, 5, and 9 and does love them, though young children can make him nervous at times. Older, calmer kids who understand how to respect his space would likely be the best fit. Wilson is house trained, crate trained, rides well in the car, and walks nicely on leash. He knows basic commands like “sit” and “crate.” Because his instinct is always to flee when frightened, he has no reliable recall and will require a securely fenced yard at all times. He can be vocal when people or vehicles approach the home, so he would not be a good fit for apartment living. He is also very fearful during nail trims and currently goes to the vet for them. Wilson’s ideal home would be a quiet, patient environment with people who understand shy or traumatized dogs. Someone who works from home would be wonderful for him, as he thrives on consistency and feeling secure with his people nearby. After four years in foster care, Wilson has come such a long way, but he will likely always carry some emotional scars from his past. He needs a family willing to continue giving him the patience, understanding, and unconditional love he deserves. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 Note: Wilson must be adopted locally OR the adopter must be willing to drive to pick him up. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
