Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Max and "brother" Bear are a bonded pair. Max was originally adopted from PMAR as a puppy, but when the owner contacted us about returning him due to illness and no longer being able to care for him, they asked if we could also take Bear. We said, yes, because we knew Max was losing the only home he had ever known, so we didn't want him to lose his brother, too. Bear is a little more reserved than Max (who is very outgoing and friendly), but they truly love each other and we want to keep them together. We would like to find them a home with a nice fenced-in yard where they could run and play. Bear is oblivious to cats, but Max is a bit reactive, so a kitty-free home would be best. They seem to get along with other dogs. Both pups are strong and need work on leash manners. They are neutered up-to-date and ready for a home to call their own! All of our animals are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, microchipped, spayed or neutered, heart-worm tested, and treated if necessary. Vet references and a home/family visit are required, and an adoption fee applies. Transport options are available within our area of operation, including Pennsylvania, the tri-state area, and New England. Please note we do not adopt animals into Canada. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
