Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Max has been in rescue for over two years and has made tremendous progress during that time. When he first arrived, he was very dependent on his former housemate and needed time to learn how to feel secure and confident on his own. With structure, training, and consistency, Max has grown into a well-adjusted, social dog who understands his basic commands and does well around other dogs. Max is friendly and affectionate, good with children, and may be suitable for a home with a dog-savvy cat. He is not comfortable walking on a leash and will require a secure, fenced yard where he can safely exercise and relax. Max is around 7 years old, neutered, fully vetted, microchipped, and ready for adoption. After waiting patiently for the right match, he is looking for a home that will offer him stability, understanding, and a commitment for life. All of our animals are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, heart-worm tested, and treated if necessary. Vet references and a home/family visit are required, and an adoption fee applies. Transport options are available within our area of operation, including Pennsylvania, the tri-state area, and New England. Please note we do not adopt animals into Canada. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
