Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. **Please note that Flower is a courtesy post and is not located at or affiliated with Paws Crossed Animal Rescue Help 3-Legged Flower Bloom! This sweet girl had a very rough start…all she wants now is a loving forever home suited to meet her needs! Flower is a budding 2 year old, weighing in at a dainty 40 lbs. Just a bundle of wiggly love! As a puppy, Flower was attacked by another dog in her own home-a local rescuer learned of this and tried to convince her owner to take her to an emergency vet. The following morning, he still had not done so, so with his permission to, the rescuer rushed her badly injured, barely conscious, little body to a nearby vet. Once stabilized and after a few days of observation (and having to be resuscitated), it became clear that the leg would need to be amputated. It was scary, but this determined little soul made it through and has fully recovered. During her recovery she was bounced around a bit from foster to foster- not her fault- just the circumstances of the humans helping her. So now, she is prone to some big feelings when first meeting people. To her credit, she is able to move beyond this very quickly. When properly introduced it takes about 5 minutes and you're “In,” and you are her friend for life! Thankfully, during her past many months Flower been receiving the training and other supports needed to give her more confidence and a feeling of safety. Her fosters have loved her so much that they all stay in touch and one even travels from Brooklyn to Westchester on a regular basis to visit her! If you fall in love with her, you would need to commit to following her introduction protocol in your own home to help Flower continue making positive associations with new people. Miss Flower would likely do best as an only pet in a home with a fenced yard and someone who is home a lot. Having other pets is not a deal breaker, but would need to be considered case by case. Flower is truly full of sunshine- she is energetic and likes to play and go for walks- having 3 legs does not slow her down at all. She has even gone swimming in a life vest and loves it! She is like a spring when her family or someone she knows visits- she literally jumps for joy. She is looking for a kind, dedicated adopter who has experience with dogs who need some extra support to manage their fears. Flower needs loving guidance to feel safe. She bonds very quickly and is then a bundle of wiggly, happy, cuddles and kisses! If you would like more information about potentially adopting her, text or call Pia at 914-505-0532 Or email found123maingmail This is a courtesy post by this rescue group. It is a private adoption, but works in much the same way as an adoption through a larger rescue group.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
