Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Shelly, a beautiful Pittie, was rescued from Manhattan ACC where she had been brought in as a stray, with broken teeth and was emaciated at only 24 pounds!! She is thought to have been born in 2015. Her foster mom has been taking such good care of her and despite her obvious neglect, Shelly remains a very sweet and loving girl, she is super smart and would do well in a suburban home with a fenced yard and an active family who can devote time to her and to make sure she gets enough of her favorite activity. . . chasing tennis balls! She is great with kids and people of all ages. She does not do well with cats, and slow introductions are required if there are other dogs in the home. Shelly is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken, crate trained and knows basic commands. Please apply online if you are interested in adopting Shelly: .rescuedogsrocknyc RDR's adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter/microchip at an RDR-approved facility, whether completed before adoption or if deferred because the pet is too young or has a medical issue. All pets are also current on age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
