Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Baby Jane (AL) is a medium female Hound mix estimated to be 4 weeks old at the time of intake in early May 2024. Baby Jane is up to date on core vaccinations (age-appropriate) and is microchipped. She will be spayed prior to joining her forever home unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Baby Jane is good with people of all ages, including children, other dogs and even cats. Baby Jane was dumped at a shelter at just 4 weeks old by her backyard breeder owner because she isn't a purebred Pit. That was probably the best thing that happened to Baby Jane because now she will go on to live a wonderful, happy life with a family that will love her forever. Baby Jane is a sweet and Baby Jane is being fostered with other dogs, cats and little kids, and she loves them all! She loves cuddling, exploring, and running around with her foster siblings. She's a tiny girl with a big personality, and she wants to be with her people all the time. She will make a wonderful addition to any family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
