Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Hiya! My name is Franklin, and I’m a sweet, lovable guy who enjoys getting out, exploring, and getting attention from the people around me. I do great on a leash and absolutely love going for walks, and I also enjoy roaming around a big yard to sniff and explore. I know how to sit and shake on command, and I get along well with other dogs and older kids. I’m not sure how I feel about cats yet, but that could be tested later. I may take a little time to warm up to new people—especially men—and I can get nervous if someone touches near my tail, but with patience and kindness I’ll show you what a loving companion I can be. Please help me find my furever home where I can feel safe, loved, and part of the family. To adopt one of our animals, please visit our shelter, open Tuesday-Friday from Noon-5pm and Saturday from Noon-4pm. You may also submit an application online from our website at .HelpTheAnimalsINC/adopt.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
