Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Let us reintroduce Laz (Adoption Fee WAIVED ) Lazarus joined us in February 2025 alongside his littermate, Otis, after being rescued from a neglectful home. Some of their siblings went to Mattie’s Place —and every one of them has found a home… except for Laz Laz is truly a great dog. Like many dogs who didn’t get the structure and socialization they needed early on, he can be fearful and a bit unsure of new people. He does have some “stranger danger,” but with proper introductions (and a few treats!), he warms up every single time Since being in foster, Laz has been putting in the work! He completed a tricks class at Nordik K9 and attends daycare at KNine Care weekly to continue building his confidence and social skills—and he’s been doing amazing. Laz is looking for a dog-savvy adopter who understands that building trust takes time. In return, you’ll get an incredibly smart, deeply loyal companion. A quieter home would suit him best—something low traffic without lots of people coming and going. He could do well with a calm, neutral dog of similar or larger size, or as your one-and-only. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
