Dog Breed: Husky (medium coat). My name is Harley! I was rescued a day before I was set to be put down at the Chatsworth pound! The volunteers had nothing but good things to say about me. At 11 years young, I’ve been told by everyone that I’m a sweet and goofy guy with some bursts of energy. I really enjoy being around people. I love chilling in the backyard and love my short walks and I’m great on leash. I don’t think cats like me but I do enjoy hanging with other mellow dogs! Everyone tells me I’m an easy dog and I just need a soft place to land. Please give me a chance. I have lots of love to give. Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
