Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Australian Shepherd (short coat). Approx. DOB: 11/15/24 Weight as of 5/27/26: 35 Lbs Adoption Fee: $250 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Skylar is a beautiful Aussie/Pit Bull mix with the most striking baby-blue eyes. She came to Furry Kids after her previous owners were no longer able to care for her. When Skylar first arrived, she was extremely fearful and had very little socialization. She was unsure of people. Over the past year, she has made incredible progress thanks to the patience and dedication of her foster family. While she still isn't the type of dog who eagerly runs up for treats or affection, she has learned to trust the people she knows and accepts gentle pets and love on her own terms. Watching her slowly gain confidence has been incredibly rewarding. Skylar is still very timid with new people and will need an adopter who understands that trust cannot be rushed. She continues to attend our Saturday Petco adoption events to help build her confidence around new people and new environments. Every positive experience helps her take another step forward. She has done well meeting other dogs and enjoys their company. Larger dogs, especially those with rough play styles, can make her feel overwhelmed, so she prefers calmer canine companions who respect her space. A patient, confident dog in her new home could help continue teaching her that the world isn't such a scary place. Skylar is crate trained and does well in her crate. She thrives on routine, patience, and gentle encouragement. Skylar isn't looking for a family that expects an instant best friend—she's looking for someone who will celebrate the small victories. The first tail wag, the first time she chooses to come closer, the first time she truly relaxes beside you—those moments are priceless. If you have a quiet home, a patient heart, and are willing to let Skylar blossom at her own pace, you'll have the privilege of watching one of the most rewarding transformations imaginable. Could you be the person who helps Skylar write the next chapter of her story? I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at .furrykidsrefuge/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
