Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). INFO: Meet Marmalade, one of our Long-Stay Legends! Our Long-Stay Legends have been at the shelter for over a year, and it is time for them to find homes. Marmalade is currently being fostered, but she is still available for adoption. Marmalade is a well-mannered, easygoing girl who gets along with other animals and is friendly with everyone she meets. She is fully potty-trained and waits to go outside, with no accidents indoors. She is a little on the chunky side and can be playful, especially around people she knows. When someone comes home, she often greets them and may bring along something she has found, such as a leaf, toy, or slipper. She is not picky with food and is easy to care for. Marmalade has been a mom in the past. One of her quirks is that she may hump when she gets excited. It is an occasional behavior that seems to be related to excitement. Marmalade has been waiting a long time for a home, and we hope her forever family is out there. This pet is currently being fostered but is available for adoption. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
