Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Shar Pei / Mixed. Currently located at our Owensboro, KY location Meet Frieda Frieda is a 55-pound Pit Bull/Shar Pei mix who came to us as a stray on June 5th. She’s estimated to be around 10 years old, and she has endured a rough life before finding safety with us. Frieda was repeatedly bred and suffered from severe, untreated ear infections that left scars on her face from the pain and constant scratching. Despite her past, Frieda’s heart still shines. She adores people and craves love and attention. Frieda would do best as the only pet in the home and in a home without small children, as she resource guards her food. This sweet senior truly deserves to spend her golden years in comfort and love. Thanks to a generous sponsor, Frieda’s adoption fee has already been covered—her forever family just needs to come find her. Meet Frieda at 2620 Hwy 81 in Owensboro Apply to adopt at itvrescue

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
