Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). **Dalton spent some time in a foster home and the foster had this to say about him: "Dalton was picking up on training very quickly and loved his crate. He could be shy with new people but warmed quickly with slow introductions. He loves hard chew toys and playing ball. He would make a really good running or hiking partner for someone. He was doing really good with his house training and would let you know when he needed to go out. He also waited to be invited onto the couch before making it his favorite place. He's a smarty-pants and enjoyed the feeding puzzle but figured it out far too quickly. He would also would gaze it himself in my full length mirror for extended periods of time, but never bark or react to that dog." Dalton is as sweet as they come! This gentle boy has a heart full of love and is just waiting for the right person to share it with. He absolutely adores playing with a ball. Toss one his way, and you'll see his playful side shine! Dalton can be scared of loud noises and large crowds, and he will need some help gaining confidence. Dalton also isn't a big fan of sharing his toys and will be better suited for older children. Dalton is proof that the sweetest dogs can also be the goofiest. This boy has a heart of gold, a serious love for toys, and just enough silliness to keep you laughing. Give Dalton a stuffed toy and suddenly he's got places to be, things to carry, and important toy business to attend to. Watching him happily trot around with his favorite toy is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. And when playtime is over? Dalton is more than happy to settle in beside you and soak up some love. He's affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he can just be with his people. Dalton also loves the beach and enjoys getting out for walks where he can leave the shelter noise behind, stretch his legs, sniff all the good smells, and simply be a dog. He gets along with other dogs, too! The shelter environment can be a lot for this sensitive guy. The barking, noise, and constant activity has Dalton feeling stressed at times, and we know there's a much happier, more relaxed version of him waiting to shine in a calm home. Sweet? Absolutely. Goofy? 100%. Toy obsessed? Without question. Ready to be someone's best friend? You bet. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
